Commit to your community!

Everyone talks about the importance of finding a very narrow niche for your coaching practice.   The narrow niche part has been a key factor in my business.  When I really narrowed my niche, my clients came flooding in.  Truly.

Yet, I did not really ‘find’ my niche.  In reality, my niche found me.  I like to say that I have ‘received’ my niche.    Here’s what happened: I came from the Estate Planning field, and I worked with accountants, attorneys, financial planners and insurance agents.  That was the professional team that it took to put together an estate plan.

Since I had a fair amount of success in that field (I was chosen for Million Dollar Round Table in my second year), I already had the credibility of my peers.  When I began my practice, many of them wanted to hire me as their coach, and so I started with the broader niche of entrepreneurs.

Other new coaches around me were developing their websites, creating brochures, ordering business cards.   I was not doing any of these things.  I did not even have a name for my coaching business.  I used my own name.  I was not ready to brand myself quite yet.

Even though I felt a bit weird about not having a website, or doing any of the other things many new coaches were doing, I was coaching.  That was something that other new coaches wanted to do.

Within 9 months of beginning my coaching practice, I applied for my ACC credential (which consisted of 250 hours in those days).   Those hours had been earned coaching entrepreneurs.  And that is when a coach approached me and asked me what the secret to my success was.  And she asked me if I would coach a group of new coaches.

I was honored to coach the new coaches, and I loved it.  I was excited about everything that had to do with new coaches.  One of my colleagues at the time told me I could not have new coaches as a niche as they were paying for training and did not have money for coaching.   I didn’t care.  I just knew what I wanted more than anything:  to coach new coaches!

It was then that I made a commitment to my community, the community of new coaches.  And everything fell into place.  Synchronicities abounded.  Coaches sought me out.  I became a trainer of coaches.  I wrote my website in one day.  I became connected to a group of people that are among the most wonderful in the world!

When I look back, there were things that I did, and questions that I asked myself, in order to get into the receiving mode for my niche.  Ask yourself:  What successes have you had in your previous career?  What challenges have you overcome?  What group of people you would love to coach?   Getting clear on these questions is one of the ways you can begin to receive your niche.

And, if you want to have a coach to work with you on receiving your niche and committing to your community, I would love to support you on that.   Here’s how:  http://www.fillyourpracticenow.com.

Envision your ideal life!

March 21, 2011

During the transition time from my Estate Planning job to my coaching practice, I was really into making vision boards.  I would collect magazines from everyone I knew.  I had stacks of them all over my home.

Each night, I would come home from my job, and look through magazines and cut out words and pictures that meant something to me.  And when the weekend came, I would make HUGE vision boards.  They were 4 feet wide and 3 feet high!   Here is a picture of one that I made in early 2002.

Through these boards, I was envisioning my ideal life.  This helped me to bring it into existence.  Now, you can imagine your ideal life in many ways, and making a vision board is just one of them.  Writing out, in rich detail, in the present tense, is another way of envisioning your ideal life.

Whatever way you decide to do this, it is an important foundational step in filling your coaching practice.  When your practice fits into the bigger picture of your life, it is easier to manifest.  There is something very powerful about the alignment of your practice with your whole life.

Oh, and back to the vision board that I made in early 2002.  I put a very small picture of Canyon Ranch on that board, you can see it here right underneath the gold teacup and above the Coach watch.  When I placed it on my board, I had the vision that I would be going to Canyon Ranch for spa days as my practice got to a point where they would be extremely affordable.

What actually happened is that 9 months after making the collage, I began speaking at Canyon Ranch.  And then I did have those spa days, as compensation for speaking.  They were extremely affordable – at no cost!  The speaking was a plus, something I never imagined.

So create your ideal life vision, any way you want.  You never know when the elements of the vision will occur, or even how they will occur.  This vision will help you to fill your practice in a way that enhances your whole life!

And, if you want to have a coach to work with you on creating this vision, I would love to support you on that.   Here’s how:  http://www.fillyourpracticenow.com.

Radiate your true self!

March 14, 2011

Years ago, I was a guest speaker at Canyon Ranch Health Resort, which is one of the top spas in the world.  I spoke about inspiration.

Even though we were not allowed to ‘market’ our services, people would come up to me after my presentation.  Some would even hire me as their coach.

One night, a tall, handsome guy came up to the podium after the talk, and asked if I could support him in finding a partner in life.

We worked together (he actually found his life partner within weeks of our first session!), and he is now happily married with a young daughter.

The reason I bring up this client, is that he said something in our first session that has stuck with me all these years.  He said that if he just ‘radiated his true self,’ he knew he could attract and keep the woman of his dreams.

As I work with new coaches who want to know what the key to filling their practices is, I find myself going back to this phrase:  Radiate Your True Self.

And I have created a process that helps to really quantify the true self.  It consists of knowing your essence energy, your values, and knowing your own unique guidelines for being full present.

This is the first part of the spiritual foundation for the Fill Your Practice Now e-Coaching program.   So, in thinking about this foundation in your own life and business, just answer the following questions:  What is my essence energy?  What are my top values?  What guidelines support me to be fully present?

And, if you want to have a coach to work with you on these questions, I would love to support you on that.   Here’s how:  http://www.fillyourpracticenow.com.

Time is on our side!

March 7, 2011

A few weeks ago, I was divinely inspired to help more coaches.

There were lots of motivations for this.  I felt a strong inner call to do this.   I saw that there were many new coaches who could not afford my individual coaching rates, but who could really benefit from my expertise and experience.

Because of my very full life, I needed to be able to do this in an extremely flexible way. When the idea came to me, I could not see a way to help new coaches in a way that was also right for me.

Then, one of my clients mentioned an on-line platform for e-Coaching, and I took a look at it.  It’s wonderful when those synchronicities occur!

What I realized at once, is that I could easily create modules for my clients to read through, and then design questions for them to answer.  They could post their answers back to me, and we were on our way.

It was so powerful to coach this way, and there was a trail to everything we talked about.

With this platform, my clients could upload documents for my input.  I could add e-books and audios that would help with particular subjects.  I could even add videos.

This platform was very affordable to me, so I would be able to pass on the savings to my clients.  And, best of all, we could each do this at the time that suited us best!

In the next posts, I will share with you each of the seven different topics that I came up with to include in the e-Coaching program I created.

The program integrates both the spiritual underpinnings AND the practical methodology of what I did to build a highly successful coaching practice.

I look forward to sharing them with you, and also to get your comments and input as I share my signature process to success with ease and joy!

The first topic will be Radiate Your True Self.  Stay tuned…

P.S.  The pictures of the boats in this post were taken by my sister Roberta in the Chicago harbor.  They really inspired me, so I wanted to share them with you!
